What is fashion?

What do you think fashion is? It has multiple meanings and definitions.Fashion seems to be one of the hottest topics but what does it really means?
I feel fashion means something that's popular and common in certain place and time. Fashion forms from the thoughts, styles and global phenomenons of the world.Fashion is everything: the clothes and accessories, the cars, the furniture, the architecture, the way we talk, act, and think.

Whats your thought about it??

Well, I think this really depends on how you want to look at fashion. Like what kind of perspective you take, to look into this topic in detail. If you wanna look at it from an artistic view, it is a different approach than if you want to look into it on sociological kind of view. If you want to look into it in a sociological view, I can really recommend the book 'Philosophy of Fashion' by Georg Simmel. Its approach is really interesting and, in my point of view, eye-opening. Give it a shot!
I mean, it might be that you won't find the original version but even just reading about his fashion theories summarized by someone else gives a great overview and new understanding of 'Fashion'.

To me: Fashion is expensive, but style is cheap. Go and create your own style and thats what that matters afterall!

I guess I really don't have the taste to create my own style. So instead I shop places like Talbots that offer classic style that will endure for years to come. That's really the way to save money.

Fashion is what big companies want us to think is nice so that they can sell more of their own stuff. it doesn't mean its nice or looks good.
there's lots of promotion of diff products by companies but not all will appeal to everyone as everyone has diff preferences. in the end, we tend to look to famous celebrities for their looks
One look in the NY Times Style section on Sunday will certainly prove you right nik.

Just a figment
Fashion is something so fabulous it makes others ask you where you got your ensemble. I wear some styles from the '80s (which I can pick up for a song at thrift stores) with a tweak or two of my own to make them unique. Be the trendsetter and let the others follow.

What clothes we like and what clothes are considered normal for us depends on fashion. Let's say no one wore ripped jeans before, but since fashion introduced ripped jeans into normal clothes, now many people wear ripped clothes because it looks unusual. I personally really love fashion because it's nice to wear fashionable and new clothes. However, finding fashionable, beautiful and bright clothes is not so easy. Because often the size does not match or the clothes are not of high quality.

Fashion is most often thought of as a global industry that is invested in anticipating what we wear and how we wish to appear to others. But fashion isn’t just a business. It’s also a cultural and social phenomenon, driven by the desire for the new. As such, the industry can never fully control fashion: fashion is all about being open to change.
