Default Tanning Beds

We are getting ready to go on a cruise soon, and everybody is telling me that I should tan in the tanning bed before we go. My skin is very fair (I look like an albino), and people say I will burn even with my sunscreen. I've heard that the tanning bed is not good for you, however, alot of people go anyway. What should I do?

Well, do you want to get a tan? Personally, I never use tanning beds, though I've thought of doing it before. Fact is, I'd rather not speed up my life by going to one and it was never that big an issue to even sit in one of those things. Just wear some sunscreen and hope you get a tan. I unfortunately have really fair skin also, so sunblock or not, I always end up with sunburn all over my front.

I don't want to run the risk of damaging my body in the tanning bed, so I think I will just opt to using my sunscreen and hoping for the best. It is strong, so hopefully I won't burn too bad. Thanks!

Sabryna,

As Dina suggested, do not opt for Tanning bed. It is horrible and might get burnt if you went in for a little too long. Why don't you try some tanning lotions. They are kind of pricey but its worth it.

Moreover, Tanning beds use UVR (UltaVioletRays) which is the widest wave lenght. It is least harmful, but combining ALL the many lights on a tanning bed, it could be dangerous for your skin.

Tanning beds are not dangerous if you only go a couple times, for which the attendants will instruct you to only go in for a minute or two. It might help a little, but you must remember that the beds are pretty intense.

As for me, I'm pretty pale, but if I really want to get a tan I lay out at the beach, using some sunscreen so I won't burn.

I guess there is a blessing in being dark skinned like I am. You could try avoid staying out on deck for any extended period of time, wear broad hats and loose clothing that covers your skin when appropriate.
