Do you have a friend like this?

I have a friend that has lent me money in the past and when I don't get the money back to her/him they ask for it back within a week or so.

YET when I have lent them money they forget about it for months on end.

When I finally brought up the fact that they owed me money from August (it is now November) they said "Can I pay you in January? I won't be able to buy Christmas presents if I give you the $20 now!" What about me needing the money for Christmas presents? I know $20 doesn't go too far but REALLY!!!

Can you imagine? So now I will wait 5 months for $20. This person waited 2 weeks for to be paid back $28 that was loaned to me!! shocked

Yes I know you are probably thinking 'some friend' but this person is also an in law.

But now what? I already said yes to the waiting for 5 months do I say something the next time she loans me money?? Something like "No it takes too long for you to pay me back but I always have to pay you back immediately"???

Yes and that is exactly why I do not lend money anymore, even to family. If they need something bad I will go out and buy it for them but I will not give them money.

Wow if I got all the money back from people who have owed me over the years Id be able to retire!! People like that suck. I don't ask for loans from anyone in the hopes that no one will ask me for money.... Sadly it doesn't work.

I always like to try to help as best as I can but Il be damned if it will screw me over in the end

People always say that they are going to borrow money off me and pay me back in about a week. They never do... Just 4 weeks ago someone "borrowed" $40 off me x.x

and i agree with you, Maniac. People like that do suck and is the exact reason why i am loaning money to people i can trust %100

and Sweetpeas. I think you should say somthing like that to her. Because really its not fair on you if you have to wait months while she only has to wait a week. Besides if she loans you money while she owes you money. Then shouldn't that be your money?

That's why when it comes to money, I would never lend it even to my best friend. It is very easy to make a relationship turns sour as people seem to adopt a different attitude when it comes to money. Perhaps, to these people, money is their best "friend"!

After you received the money in your future loan from her, say that you will her in 5 months. When she put up her fight, tell her that you, too, won't be able to buy some birthday gifts for some friends if you pay her up so soon.

I bet that she will really learn her lesson with such a reasoning.

Never give or 'loan' anything you can't afford to not get back. Always make this a rule for you ladies...it will save you A LOT of heartache in the future.

Also, as for the "friend"...just wait until she pays you. If she doesn't, she doesn't...sucks, but not worth a big drawn out family feud over. And the next time she asks for anything...all you need to say, "I don't have the money". Because you don't...You don't have money to throw away, because that is exactly what you are doing with her. She proved it.

And what REALLY sux!!!! .... You have Christmas to shop for to...what makes you less important than her?!?! She does not have a kind spirit.
