Anyone else find this offensive?

I have always hated to be referred to as "just a girl", especially when it's an excuse for something someone think I can't do. This always makes me more determined to do whatever it is.

It depends on what it is and who says it, so I guess it's not really the statement in itself. I think I can do a lot of things the boys do and even better than they can, so I just show them what I am made of.

Sometimes I am kind of rude back you know, but thats just how I am I guess. I do know what you mean about it being offense, sometimes people just do not think before they speak.

Somehow the tone of such statement doesn't fill me with a lot of warm fuzzies. 'JUST a girl' suggests that one shouldn't expect better, or much, from a girl. I don't want anyone pulling that on me.

Sounds like something a guy said....it IS very rude and offensive. Girls in 2day's world are actually making more and better progress than boys. Any1 that says 2 me that I'm just a girl.....is gonna get smacked really hard by my fists!!

In my neighbourhood, a !$%& guy put stickers on his van saying GIRLZ ARE IDIOTS, u know what happened? My mom along with me and my friends went to him saying "if u dont remove this sticker by tonight we'll break the van's windows. The next day that guy was so ashamed that he ignored girls.

Offensive? My parents used to say it to me a lot in the old days. It makes me feel that they care and protect me a lot. I wish they still say that to me nowadays.

Guess I am all grown up.

I guess it depends on you and how you perceived it. I wouldn't care if someone called me a girl because I am just that a girl. I guess it would also depend on the tone the person was using when they called you a girl too. Were they being sarcastic or were they just saying that you were a girl?

It very well depends who says it and how it is said would be the biggest thing to not overlook. But just so everyone knows, there was a song made about this years ago....

Full Lyrics

Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
I'm exposed
And it's no big surprise
Don't you think I know
Exactly where I stand
This world is forcing me
To hold your hand

'Cause I'm just a girl, little ol' me
Don't let me out of your sight
I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights
Oh ... I've had it up to here!

The moment that I step outside
So many reasons
For me to run and hide
I can't do the little things
I hold so dear
'Cause it's all those little things
That I fear

'Cause I'm just a girl
I'd rather not be
'Cause they won't let me drive
Late at night
I'm just a girl

Guess I'm some kind of freak
'Cause they all sit and stare
With their eyes
I'm just a girl
Take a good look at me
Just your typical prototype
Oh... I've had it up to here I
Oh... am I making myself clear?

I'm just a girl
I'm just a girl
In the world...
That's all that you'll let me be!

I'm just a girl, living in captivity
Your rule of thumb
Makes me worry some
I'm just a girl, what's my destiny?
What I've succumbed to
Is making me numb
I'm just a girl ... my apologies
What I've become is so burdensome
I'm just a girl, lucky me
Twiddle-dum there's no comparison

Oh...I've had it up to!
Oh...I've had it up to!
Oh...I've had it up to here

I guess it would depend what kind of attitude they said it to me in...

But I'm the kind of girl that likes to prove people wrong too and do all the things guys "stereotypically" do...like...go to school to become a mechanical engineer...like learn how to fix things (like replace my garage door motor!!!!)....

....so...i can see how it can be offensive.
