I don't but one of my mates does. She says she feels relaxed and relieved only if she smokes at least once every day. I advised her innumerable number of time but nothing seems to work. I recently read an article and it says, Apart from the cancer, lung disorder and many other health problems smoking can also cause infertility in women. I can do nothing but just pity on my mate.

I used to smoke. I gave up for many years then started up again. But 3 years ago I stopped and, hopefully, will never smoke again!
The reason I gave up was I just couldn't afford it - never mind the health issues (we all think nothing bad will happen to us, right?) So, I went to the surgery, saw the practice nurse and got some nicotine patches which worked a treat. I also joined an on-line forum called QuitNet.com which gives lots of support to wannabe-ex-smokers. I didn't join in with the support thing (I'm one of those people who just gets on and does something - talking about it just makes you think about it more!) But QuitNet have a great little gizmo where you type in how much you are spending per week on cigarettes, how many cigs you are smoking etc, and then it calculates how much you are saving. So, when you join you fill in the gizmo then once every couple of months you get an email from them and it will tell you how much money you've saved etc. My last email from them told me that I have saved about almost $4,000 over 3 years. Imagine what I could buy with that?! I wish I'd put it in a special savings account now!

I know that some people go through hypnotherapy to quit smoking. I personally think it would be cheaper to just quit cold turkey, you have to detox before hypnotherapy anyway. I guess for some people it's just too hard, and maybe the psychological effect of thinking it's the hypnotherapy is the thing that works?

Anything a person chooses to help them give up smoking is a sort of crutch to help them over the first few days and weeks. I have heard of people having given up smoking through using hypnotherapy but, as you say, it's an expensive way of quitting. But then again, if a person has tried everything else and nothing has worked, I can understand why they would give the hypno a try.
However, a friend of mine tried all sorts of different methods, including hypno, and although she managed to give up smoking for about 6 months through a course of hypno, she went back on the cigarettes within weeks of finishing her last hypno session. She also tried the patches, like I did, and she hasn't had a cigarette for 3 years now. Depending on how heavy a smoker you are, the patches - which contain nicotine which is released into the blood stream throughout the day - allows the body to get little top-ups of nicotine without the smoker resorting to cigarettes and then as a few weeks go by then a lower-strength patch is used as so on until you don't need any nicotine at all. It worked for me anyway, for which I'm thankful!
