Answered: I Can't Sleep!

I've always gone to bed no later than 11pm. But it's been 3 days that I just don't feel tired or sleepy at all!!!

Last night I went to bed at 1am and stayed listening to music until I finally fell asleep at about 3am---and got up at 8am. And I didn't felt tired or sleepy at all during the day. When I was 15 I had insomnia for a while but I actually felt tired and just couldn't sleep.

What's happening now is different. I'm like a robot. I've tried everything. It's like my brain keeps going on and it won't shut down.

I know I should go to the doctor but I don't like the idea of taking sleeping pills. :/

Anyone else has been like this before?

All the above are good ideas. I'd also add avoid alcohol as it will initially make you more sleepy, but the quality of sleep won't be as good. Plus the fact that you don't want to get into the habit of "needing a drink" to be able to sleep...

There are also some very good herbal remedies that usually include natural anti-histamines which will make you feel drowsy.

Most doctors will only prescribe sleeping pills as a last resort and they often come up with some good advice to help. If they do offer sleeping pills, that's up to you, but most are benzo-diazapemes which are valium based and should only be taken short-term - things like Temazepam, Diazepam, Triazepam, etc.

Have you changed your daily routine recently? (apart from bed time of course).
Is there anything on your mind that may be worrying you either consciously or subconsciously?
Have you drastically changed your diet or exercise routine?
Stopped or started smoking?

All of these things can have an effect.

If you're going to sleep later, but waking up at the same time, maybe that's all the sleep your body currently needs. As long as you feel okay during the day, I wouldn't worry too much. It sounds odd, but sometimes, worrying about not being able to sleep actually keeps you awake!

If I can't sleep, instead of just lying there, I get up and do housework. Half an hour of that and my brain seems to say "sleep now - anything but housework!"

Hope you start sleeping better soon. x

I went through 3 years of insomnia and I can sympathise completely with where you are coming from! The problem is that you get into a unhealthy cycle and you need to break that cycle in order to move forward. You should try some relaxation techniques, try having a nice warm (not boiling hot!) bath before bed, use calimg oils and fragrances like lavender. Don't go online or watch TV too much before bed as it keeps your mind working overtime, instead perhaps try and settle down with a cup of cocoa or warm milk about an hour before.

I'm sure the other girls will be able to suggest more, and I hope you start feeling better soon xx

I've definately been there. From my last two years in high school till about a year or so ago. I still don't sleep as much as I should. 4-5hrs tops usually does me.

I did pretty much everything Bex said. Including some of these

- Herbal relaxing teas
- No coffee, tea or ciggys after 5pm
- A long walk or run in the mornings
- Lavender EVERYTHING and under your pillow too
- Change your diet, more organic stuff, less processed stuff
- Take the tv and\or computer out of your bedroom
- Even did a lil feng shui, clear out everything from under your bed and make sure the bed head is up against a solid wall with no windows

Hopefully some of these will help you Kohmi?

Good luck and sweet dreams

I see. I shouldn't use the computer if I can't sleep. I'll try to do what you girls told me.

Thanks for the advice everyone! ^___^

Okay gurls, whoever doesnt fall asleep try a simple method and let me know that you got benefits or not, i do and i feels it, thats why i am sharing here.

Okay when you can;t get sleep just try to be on bed, lay on and close your eyes and try to countdown from 100-0 but please dont utter the words, if you doesnt get asleep then try it again and i am sure you will get tired and sleep in between.

A lot of ways to make you fall asleep but I would say get up, do something constructive instead of wasting time trying to fall asleep

Hmmm... is there anything different going on in your life? Are you overly stressed or are you worried about something? This can cause that. Or, are you excited about something?
