What to use for college?

I usually carry around a large bag purse in order to fit all my "stuff" in. However, I'm getting ready to head off to college. I still need the necessities, but don't feel like carrying another bag. What can you recommend? I need something practical.

I use a backpack. It is trendy, comfortable and fits all the books I need. I have seen few other people carrying the side-pack stuff. Few other guys prefer carrying small suitcase kind of bags (like the ones used by Sales representatives).

You can try tote bags but I never liked it. One more ridiculous thing is, college students have even started carrying designer shopping bags (like Gucci, GAP, etc) to carry their books.

I see people carrying the bags on the side now, with one strap. They are convenient to carry a laptop in, as well as books and paper. You can get them as simple or as complex as you want them too.

Thanks for all the ideas. The side back seems more practical and comfortable. I'll keep these in mind when I go shopping. I couldn't imagine using a shopping bag

Lol so true! It is funny to see girls carrying them shopping bags for college. I wonder, won't the other students in the college make fun of them? I bet they gonna be teased big time!

Back packs works well, they hold a lot of stuff, plus if you need a free hand you can always put both straps on your shoulder and there you go, ready for more books.

I really don't know what's up with so many people carrying around shopping bags. I always see girls carrying around the Victoria Secrets bag, and I think it looks kind of tacky! I say spend the money and get something nice and comfortable, that will hold everything the right way!

I usually use a large bag purse as well, one easily slung over the shoulder and large enough to carry around a couple heavy schoolbooks. I was never a big fan of backpacks, and prolly never will be :P

I never cared for backpacks either. I have always gone for the bags that are big and you can rest on your shoulder. A bag that's big enough to carry two large books is the perfect size for me.

I remember only recently I had a nice big bag for work, it resembled an attache case but had a feminine look to it. It was large enough to hold a laptop plus other things I needed on a day to day basis.
