How do you handle suck ups

How do you handle suck ups on the job? I know noboby likes suck ups, even suck ups themselves. I normally just do my job to the best of my ability and leave it there.

It really depends on the situation for me. There's a difference between somebody who is a suck up naturally and somebody who is being a suck up to get something special. If somebody is sucking up to me to get something, in any sense, the best thing to do is just ignore them! Don't give them what they want.

It depends on who and what they want. Sometimes after he "suck up" I am like, 'so what do you want'? Usually they just come out with it. I give in sometimes, depending on it's nature.

How to handle suck-ups? I generally ignore them! Someone who feels the need to 'suck-up' to the boss or line manager is usually someone who is either very unsure of themselves or not very good at their job.

The person being sucked-up to is usually the first to realize what is going on and, if they are wise, doesn't allow the antics of the 'sucker-upper' to sway his/her own judgement!

Then again, if the person being sucked-up to allows themselves to be fooled into thinking the sucker-upper is a great person, then the sucked-up to person is weak and also has low self-esteem .... and I'd hate to work for someone with such a weak strength of character and look for another job!

I have seen people take on additional role and responsibilities in an attempt to gain experience, it there a thin line between being assertive and a sucker upper?

Normally, I just ignore them, but it does grind on my nerves when they get what they want, whether it is to be adored by a co-worker, given presents because they are oh-so-sweet, etc. I'm pretty subtle about disliking people though, and no one has ever tried sucking up to me before. I don't really have anything to offer them, lol.

Sometimes I do feel sorry for these people because I think they are not depending on their abilities to succeed, it's more about being favored by persons in high places.

I'm a very busy girl. I don't have much time to spend with friends to start with and have enough confidence to leave behind those who are behaving like that. I'm not going to allow people to manipulate me. I have no sympathy for these type of people nor will I enable them by encouraging the behavior.
