Question

Boys

I have the joy of raising 3 boys. I am having an easier time explaining and talking through violent movies or shows and guiding their physical energy explosions than when the topic of sex comes up. I'm not a prude at all, but their Dad is very conservative.

We've never allowed them to close the door to their room if a girl is visiting, but I don't mind girls as friends, I don't think I'd ever disallow it, just put boundaries in place.

Any advice on the boys and sex discussions? Don't approach them at all, let them come to us with their questions? I try to answer them straight if they hear something on t.v. about it, but sometimes the explanations don't come easily.

If you are waiting for a teenage boy to approach you about sex, don't even bother. It's not going to happen. If you aren't comfortable talking to them, find someone who can. They need to know the facts, not what they'll hear from the other kids at school.

I totally agree, I find it easier to talk to other people's kids, I have a niece I am close to and I speak openly to her, I just wonder if it were my son where is young now, if I would be that open.

I believe that too that children aren't really comfortable discussing sex with their parents especially when they're already aware of what sex is. Even my mom and I are so close, I couldn't find the guts to discuss sex with her. It was my bestfriend whom I shared such matters with.
